Original Article: Seattle Works gets Swank this weekend

I’ve blogged about Seattle Works here before. It’s an organization that connects Seattleites in their 20s and 30s with volunteer and leadership opportunities – and really great people. This weekend is the organization’s annual fundraiser, Emerald City Swank. The event includes live auctions, a raffle, a dinner and dancing. Proceeds benefit Seattle Works, which facilitated more than 25,000 volunteer hours in our community last year alone. I’ve attended Emerald City Swank before and it’s indeed swanky. If you need an excuse to get dressed up, this is it. Click here to learn more.

Original Article: Pearl Jam kicks off world tour at KeyArena

Pearl Jam kicks off its new world tour tonight and tomorrow night at KeyArena. The Seattle-based band plays in eight more U.S. cities, then heads down under for a tour of Australia and New Zealand in November. Pearl Jam released their ninth studio album “Backspacer” yesterday; it’s the group’s first independent release on its own Monkey Wrench label.

Meanwhile, Pearl Jam fans can give back to the community before they rock at KeyArena tonight. The Wishlist Foundation is hosting a pre-concern fundraiser at T.S. McHugh’s at 21 Mercer Street from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Folks who make donations will receive Pearl Jam inspired t-shirts, posters and other memorabilia. The fundraiser will benefit literacy organization 826 Seattle and breast cancer support organization Young Survival Coalition. Canned dry food will also be collected for Northwest Harvest.

Original Article: Tap the kegs for Oktoberfest

Time is flyin by. Folks are already submitting Christmas themed events to our events calendar, and we haven’t even gotten past Halloween and Thanksgiving. I say it’s time to slow down, and enjoy the onset of fall. And this weekend you can do just that in Fremont, for the 13th annual Oktoberfest. USA Today has named Fremont one of the top 10 places to celebrate the event. In addition to 70 microbrews on tap, three beer gardens, a chainsaw pumpkin carving contest (!), and a fun run, this year there is a Simpsons theme. The event is the West Coast host for the 20th year celebration of The Simpsons. According to a press release, Seattle holds the highest Simpsons viewing records in the nation. Who knew?
